IN CASE OF EMERGENCY
If you fear for your life or safety, call 9-1-1 immediately or go to the emergency department at Hôpital du Suroît.
A team of professionals—available 24/7—will be on hand to ensure you receive immediate attention.
RECENT ASSAULT (LESS THAN 30 DAYS)
If you were assaulted less than five days ago, you can undergo a medical examination during which forensic samples will be collected, to be used as evidence if you decide to report the assault to the police. You will be informed of the procedures to follow and given a list of organizations that provide assistance. Once the five-day window has passed, forensic samples can no longer be taken; however, you can still see a health professional to undergo screening for pregnancy and sexually transmitted and blood borne infections (STBIs), as well as have access to psychological support services.
LESS RECENT ASSAULT (MORE THAN 30 DAYS)
Regardless of how much time has passed since the assault, there are many resources available to guide and support you through this difficult time, whether you need protection, medical and/or psychological help, or information regarding compensation.
These resources will help you to identify your specific needs. The entire process is carried out under the strictest confidentiality, with due regard to the victim’s rights and choices.
No adult victim will ever be compelled to disclose details to the police against his or her will. Services are available regardless of whether the assault is reported to the police.
